Spend New Years in the Virgin Islands!
Friday December 30, 2016 to January 5, 2017
It’s a 5-4-2 trip
(Less than 5 vacation days, 4 times a year, (almost) less than 2K)
Welcome Aboard!
We’re headed to St. Croix starting in December 2016 through March 2017. Departing from the Fredriksted Pier, we’ll be exploring the wrecks and reefs of Butler Bay, the walls off Cane Bay, and the reefs and slopes of the northern shores of the island around the Salt River and Christainsted. This is a winter not to be missed!
We’ll start and end the trip at the Fredriksted Pier, which means you land, you can head to the boat, toss your clothes in your cabin and throw a tank on your back the minute you board! And if your no-fly times allow for it, at the end of the trip take a dip with a final afternoon and even a night dive at the Pier as well. This pier is beloved to many a diver, photographer, and critter lover. Ranging in depths from 10 to 80 feet, there is no lack of diversity all along the pilings. Jump off Juliet for a dive, or have some fun jumping from 25′ up into 25′ of water directly off the pier! Now that’s a giant stride!
The old cruise ship pier is just to the north in the deep section of Butler Bay at a dive site called Armageddon. It was destroyed by hurricane Hugo in 1989 and sits in 80-100′ of water and looks just like it sounds, like the end of the world! Steel girders, concrete, and general wreckage pile high on the seafloor, attracting tons of life! Also in Butler Bay are an old trawler the Suffolk Maid, a large barge called the Virgin Islander, and our personal favorite, a small tugboat named North Wind sitting upright in 50′ of water. If your navigation is good, you also might be able to find NOAA’s old Undersea Research Laboratory where 4 scientists could spend up to 2 weeks exploring the bottom of the ocean.
Just around the corner in Cane Bay are the most spectacular collection of Wall dives you’ll see this side of the world. Vertigo is an inverted wall that does what is says on the tin, Cane Bay wall stretches a few miles in each direction with a sloping sand top and a gorgeous spur and groove wall starting at 60-80 feet and dropping to thousands. A bit to the west the wall comes shallower, starting at 20 feet just off shore. Evenings in Cane Bay might be topped off with a run into the beach to a local island haunt!
Further east is the Salt River Canyon, east and west canyon sides offer some amazing diversity, the nutrient-rich waters of the Salt River curating a beautiful coral-lined valley. The visibility might not be as predictable here, but the dive is well worth it!

There are no refunds for missed flights or changes in plans. Travel Insurance (ie: comprehensive accident, medical, baggage and trip cancellation and interruption insurance) purchased at the time their reservation is made, may help protect guests from financial disappointment if they are prevented from making their scheduled trip due to illness or family illness, or in the event that unforeseen circumstances prevent the airline or yacht from making its scheduled trip.
We require diving accident insurance. For your convenience below are links to Dive Assure . Both organizations offer Travel Insurance and Dive Accident Insurance and be purchased via our web site at https://oceanicventures.net/travel-insurance/.
