Dry Suit Scuba Diving and DUI DOG Rally and Demo Days in Texas

Diving Drysuits is fun
Diving Dry Suits Is Fun and They Extend Your Diving Season!
If you did not already know, we dive all winter! Alex, David, Joel. Madison and Rich all dive year round locally. In fact we have diving almost every weekend already scheduled and you do not want to miss a single weekend!
But despite our living in the South, the lakes tend to cool down a bit. Dry suits are the way to dive year round and laugh at the cold. And, to make it even more special, DUI’s DOG Rally and Demo Days is coming up November 10-1, 2012 at Clear Springs Scuba Park. This is your opportunity to get certified to dive a dry suit, try out the complete line of products from DUI and get fed lunch all for one price! And, if you want to, you can even camp with the rest of our divers!
Sign-Up today and get ready for this winters diving marathon!

Dive Mom, I hate being cold and I want to dive! (please sign me up or send me some more information)

100 Scuba Dives…Dive Mom Needs Help!

Dive Mom Ready to Go
Dive Mom Ready to Go!

“For the first time I can remember, I don’t have my 100 dives by November 1; I need your help to get there before December 1!”
Ann Keibler will be venturing up to the DUI Dog Rally and Demo Days in Terrell Texas on November 19-20 and she would like for you to join her. So that you both have something to do while swimming around the lake, she will be doing dry suit open water dives and dry suit demos. To give you some incentive to show up, she has come up with the following specials:

  • Take a Dry Suit course, reg $225, for only $125 and she will pay for your DUI entry ticket for Saturday and Sunday. By doing your open water here, you also save the dry suit rental charge ($100 for the weekend).
  • Take your Nitrox course, reg $225, for only $125 and she will pay for your DUI entry ticket for the day and include the Nitrox for your dives!

Both courses include the educational materials and the classroom portion is a home study program. You should turn in your homework and take the test before you leave. She will be staying late Wednesday November 9, so you can get the test over with early. You can take the test at the lake, but who wants to skip the fun and take a test so doing it early is really better.
Of course if you are already certified as a dry suit diver, you can still come up and go diving. Remember, she needs a lot of dives and she doesn’t think any one person will want to do that many in a day. As such, she needs multiple buddies and lots of moral support.
DUI’s Dog Rally and Demo Days is a really cool event where you can try almost every suit DUI makes, almost every style of undergarment, get lunch and a hat all for $10.00 (when purchased from Oceanic Ventures, in advance). And, if you are already a DOG (DUI Owners Group) and you bring a friend to the event, you will get a special gift.

Please send Dive Mom and email and tell her you will help her reach her goal.

She would like to know who is going to attend by Friday.

Cold Water & 101 Divers

Diver Exiting Water At Demo DaysDiver Exiting Water At Demo Days“45 minutes, too long, we need more staff in the water.”  These were not the words or a deep water recovery supervisor but the staff at DUI’s Demo Days in Terrill Texas.  With a 101 divers coming through the tent on Saturday, there are never enough instructors in the water to take in-experienced divers on a dry-suit demo and tour.   Pat Outfitting a DiverPat Outfitting a Diver
Pat Outfitting a DiverVernon, Wade Pat and I spent the day up at Clear Springs Scuba Park for the annual DUI Demo Days. What a great event.  As Ann likes to say, where else can you  try out over $3,000 in equipment, get a hat and eat a hamburger lunch all for $8.00.  For an additional $8.00 you can eat dinner and be eligible for numerous prizes from DUI, Diversatea and DAN.
Mneung from tent duty to the water took all of 2 hours. and the call for more help trumped the schedule so carefully put together from “volunteers” early in the morning.  Wade and Pat, being Diver Coordinators add to the instructors numbers and soon they were headed out to show the new dry suit divers challenges of dry suit diving while searching perch and bass (elusive with all of the bubble noise emitted by the divers)  I entered the water a short time later and was not able to get out of the water until 5:00 pm a full 5 hours later.  Luckily I grabbed a burger before jumping in.
Vernon also completed a dry suit open water for Jerry Keiselwysky who plans on getting his own dry suit.  Welcome to the club Jerry!
Of course riding up and back with Pat awarded him the privilege of listening to me talk about the dive industry and prying questions.  To top all of this off, he shared a hotel room with me and found out what Dave already knew – snoring!  Pat was a good sport and didn’t complain at all. Of course the real key is whether he will ever share a room with me again. It was a great weekend and we had a good time.
