Dave's String of Saturdays…

Dave's string of saturdays

Dave has been in quarantine in New York for over two weeks. He called and said, “it is like a String of Saturdays.” In another conversation he remarked that he was not sure his apartment would survive the level of cleaning it is receiving!

Dave has also resorted to searching the internet and even looking at Facebook! He has sent down some really funny things that we thought you might enjoy…

Options…

In New York, the Subway lines are noted by colors with all of the stops. When you can’t get out, commuting changes. Here is one New Yorker’s interpretation of their quarantined life…

New Yorker’s Revised Subway Map

Dave is also concerned about my not being able to exercise so he found a new routine that I could use while being quarantined here in Houston…

Your New Exercise Program

To help you feel better about your new home office, here is a photo of someones home office…

Your New Home Office?

As his String of Saturdays continues, it is good to know that Dave is still in good humor. However, I haven’t heard from Martha.

Eric Keibler
Eric’s Father used to say that Odessa (where Eric grew up) was the hub of water in the state. You can drive 500 miles in any direction and hit water but there was nothing in-between. So it is not surprising that Eric moved to the coast to be nearer to water and trees. An avid diver and sailor, Eric loves being on the water. He serves as the Managing Director for Oceanic Ventures, Houston’s premier Scuba Diving facility where he teaches both recreational and technical diving. He is also an accomplished author, photographer and sailor.

New Products in On-Line Store

If you have not looked at the Oceanic Ventures On-Line store lately, you may have missed a few new specialty items that we added. With the continuing discomfort during the COVID-19 situation, Dive Mom has been reminding everyone she talks to that “Divers are line Cephalopods – We’re flexible; we’re adaptable; and, we’re super strong!” So, we created a new coffee mug so you can remind everyone that you will get through all of this. We have also set-aside $1.00 from the sale of each mug to donate to the Houston Food Bank for their COVID-19 relief effort.

And, since it seems everyone is at home cooking right now, we thought it would be appropriate to add an apron to the store. This will help you keep your clothes clean in your home office while you are kneading bread.

These new items are available now (on-line only.) along with some new hats. To find the products, just press the shop button in the menu.

Scuba In Your Home Begins

Remote Classroom Session is About to Begin

Last evening we began our Scuba in Your Home series with an Advanced Open Water program utilizing our Virtual Classroom so students could attend from their secret bunkers around Texas. Oceanic Ventures has operated this virtual classroom for a number of years but we have used it primarily for technical diver training for students located outside of the Houston area.

But with the onset of the COVID-19 situation, we are expanding its use to our other diving programs. The water in the area is still cold so we aren’t missing on any diving yet and when the water warms up, we should be past this current shelter in place order. So, the students are getting a bit of a jump on the season.

We are offering a range of classes through our Scuba In Your Home Program. Some of the classes are Navigation, Night Diving, Search & Relocation, Nitrox, Deep Diver, Stress & Rescue, Science of Diving and Dive Guide. We will be adding some additional classes over the next few weeks. You can see the schedule for the rest of the week by going here. If you missed a session, no problem, we can help you make it up. This is a fun way to keep thinking about diving while you are staying at safe at home.

To receive more information on a program or to enroll in a program just call or email Dive Mom and she will open the on-line learning educational materials and send you the link for the virtual classroom.

Social Club Meeting Canceled for March 2020

Everything in life is always fluid and the Covid-19 pandemic is no different. This morning we had planned to go ahead and have the meeting even if it was only a small gathering. But as the day progressed so to did the situation. As such, we decided to cancel the meeting and shortly thereafter the restaurant also elected to switch from dine-in and carry out to carryout only.

We feel for the staff and their families because like us, we all need you, our clients to come in to keep us in business. Ann and I, as well as the entire Oceanic Ventures family, would like to encourage you to patronize our meeting partner, the Backstreet Cafe, by ordering at least one meal to take home and eat with your family. By doing so, you help to assure that your favorite businesses will be here when things improve. They have made it easier for you because they are offering a coupon for order over $50.00.

We are still planning on hosting next months meeting there.

Just like you, we are monitoring updates on the ever-changing situation. Please watch our websites for updates on hours and to-go offerings. – Stay well –
